I have extensive experience working with individuals with depression, anxiety, stress management, relationship, grief, and life transition issues. I specialize in healing from trauma and grief using a strengths-based approach incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in addressing the needs of the whole person. I am a member of the Crisis Care Network and have specialized training in EMDR (Level 2), Critical Incident Stress Management and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. In addition, I hold a Post-BA Certificate in Human Resource Management from the University of Richmond and have extensive experience working with businesses managing critical incidents, crisis, and other workplace issues. I work with people to actualize their personal potential in many realms of life. I also help others to understand their identity and forge meaning in their life by way of purposeful action that is rooted in their deeply held values. I have specialized training in working with people with disabilities. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, as well as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. I also have a broader specialization in working with individuals to enhance motivation for change. Struggles that I find the greatest facility with helping others are those related to identity crisis, loneliness, social isolation or feelings of alienation, social phobia, panic disorder, relationship problems, and family difficulties. I enjoy working with adolescents. I studied psychology at Mississippi State University and rehabilitation counseling at Virginia Commonwealth University (MCV campus). I have completed formal instruction in cognitive therapy and advanced instruction in motivational interviewing. I have interned and worked with agencies in a variety of mental health and vocational rehabilitation settings. My hobbies and interests include art, music, and film. I live in Richmond with my wife, Julie, who also works with the Healing Arts Center.

I am a third level Reiki practitioner trained in the Usui Tradition. Reiki is a powerful yet gentle method of healing touch that utilizes universal energy to bring profound peace and healing to the body, mind, spirit and soul. The Reiki practitioner acts as a facilitator or channel for this divinely guided universal energy. I use aromatherapy to increase the benefits of each Reiki session when appropriate. I work with each client to meet his or her individual goals for healing and growth. I dance, craft, and blog when I’m not spending time with my husband, Tracy, and our friends.
