Thanks to everyone for the great feedback and inquiries about my appearance on TLC’s “My Strange Addiction” … Yes, that WAS me … I was the therapist for Rhonda, the 24 y.o. with the “addiction” to sucking her thumb (Episode 2). It was a wonderful experience and opportunity … (and the crew was a lot of fun).  And I’ve loved hearing from family and friends (some I haven’t talked to since high school) from all over the country in the last few months. My hope is that it gives a viewer, who may be interested in therapy but hasn’t taken that step, a glimpse of what therapy can be and inspires he/she to make that call and take that first step towards healing and personal growth.

Social Anxiety Group

No, you didn’t read that wrong. We offer a weekly group focusing on living effectively with social anxiety. As you may know, one of the most debilitating aspects of social anxiety is feeling that you are alone, that no one feels the way you do in ordinary situations, or that people will reject you if they discover how you feel inside. Meeting others who feel this way too is the first step to discovering how normal your feelings are.

Everyone experiences anxiety – at least a little bit. It’s a normal reaction to new or stressful situations. Learn how your sensitivity to stimuli provides you with rich experiences others likely do not have and how confusing this information with perceived danger can trigger your primal responses to fear. Explore the role language plays in identifying threats and dangers and how trying to escape a feeling is the only way to ensure that you will feel it. Design and build a new lifestyle around the information you learn about yourself and share with others.

This group uses a workbook based on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and its cost is included in the registration fee. The group will offer the opportunity to share experiences, collaborate, and gain support through the process of self-exploration. We invite you take this opportunity to unite with courage … look inside with courage … live with courage.

Please call to register for this group. The registration fee for the workbook and six sessions is $325.00, paid in advance. The group can accommodate up to five persons.
